2010/11 Calgary Flames
In the aftermath of a disappointing 2009/10 season in which the Flames failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2003, the franchise cleaned house over the summer and have decided to take the teams scouting in a new direction.
To begin with, the team hired former Tampa Bay Lightning GM Jay Feaster as an assistant to GM Darryl Sutter. The team then turned around and hired Hall of Fame Player Michael Goulet as their Western Pro Scout. Goulet, who served 15-years with the Avalanche, was released by that club in the summer of 2009 and is anxious to begin anew. "Everything turned out perfect. I'm looking forward to joining a new team, a new organization. It should be fun,” Goulet said recently.
The team has been busy in the offseason and acquired six free agents, two of whom played for the Flames before. Alex Tanguay signed a one-year $1.7 million contract while Olli Jokinen inked a two-year deal worth $6 million. The team traded their 2010 sixth round draft pick for Henrik Karlsson and then three days later traded Jason Jaffray to the Ducks for Logan MacMillan. The draft yielded Maxwell Reinhart, son of former Flames draft selection Paul Reinhart.
Be sure to come on out and support your Calgary Flames as they attempt to get back into the hunt for the NHL Stanley Cup.
